After 10 years, Student needed clarity on their ambitions. We helped them broaden their offerings, create an in-house content studio, and position the brand for future generations.

Context

Over the past 10 years, Student has refined its expertise in communicating with younger generations. They’ve built a network of over 450,000 students and young professionals, along with a range of offerings designed to connect organisations with this audience.

Despite their diverse offerings, they were primarily viewed as a job board for student jobs. However, their capabilities extended far beyond that—from targeting students with more precision than Meta to leveraging a database of >450K student users. They also developed a digital platform for businesses to showcase their employer brand to younger generations.

While the raw potential was there, they struggled to market their value proposition and reach their target clients effectively.

The mission

When the Student co-founders approached Nemesis, we discussed clarifying their positioning and communication strategy. We also talked about refining their business strategy and offerings in order to match their unique market position and audiences.

They wanted us to rethink their go-to-market strategy. While they had solid inbound traffic and a hefty amount of student subscriptions —which was half of the job— they aimed to be more proactive in reaching out to clients and increasing their market share.

Additionally, they sought to define their internal culture. With growth plans, they needed to establish a solid strategic foundation.

Finally, we reworked their brand platform and refreshed their visual identity to better support their communication goals and resonate better with their younger audience.

Our approach

Our collaboration was immersive. We worked closely with the Student team, sharing key moments like yearly kick-off, sales pitches, Gen Z conferences, and the launch of new platform features.

With meaningful insights and a hands-on understanding of their challenges, we first helped the founders clarify a vision for their business goals and market penetration strategy. This vision united their team and drove organisational change. We implemented this vision across every level of the company: sales, marketing, IT, client management, and leadership.

For sales, we developed a new outbound sales pitch and sales funnel. For marketing, we created a communication plan and strategy. For IT, we identified ways to leverage their database beyond current practices. For client management, we coached the team to stay consistently on-brand and trained them to seek upsell opportunities proactively.

Finally, we helped the leadership transform their rational position—"being a platform for students"—into an emotional statement everyone could rally behind: "giving voice to generations."

Over four months, we helped the Student team rethink everything, from building plans for their internal content studio to creating a sales excellence playbook and completely reworking their offerings to better connect students and organisations.

Today, the founders have found renewed drive. So much so that they plan to leverage their experience, database, and infrastructure in a new venture launching in 2025, which will support young professionals beyond their student life.
